In The News

7/9/08 - I posted pictures from my recent trip to Colorado. I saw some of the most rugged and beautiful mountains that I have ever seen. Check them out!

5/19/08 - I posted pics from my recent hike up Mt. San Gorgonio in southern California. Last time I tried to summit, I failed. Check out the new pics and see if I made it this time.

4/26/08 - As of Friday April 25th @ 3:30 P.M., I am Dr. Marshall. Woo hoo! I successfully defended my dissertation entitled: "Deformation Associated with Faulting within Geologic and Interseismic Timescales." I have also accepted a tenure-track position in the department of geology at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. I am the new geophysics professor starting August 15th.

3/11/08 - I updated my publications page and posted an updated CV. Also, my dissertation defense is scheduled for April 25th!! Wish me luck! Maybe someday (after April 25th), I'll get a chance to do some fun stuff so that I can post new pictures.

10/27/07 - I was recently (10/24/07) an invited speaker for the USGS Earthquake Hazards Team weekly lecture series in Menlo Park, CA. The talk was recorded and posted online as a streaming video. Click here to view the talk. The talk starts about 2.5 minutes into the video and is ~55 minutes long including questions.

6/01/07 - I updated my CV (new format, updated pub list). I also posted a few sets of pics from recent hikes in New England. Check 'em out.

6/01/07 - I have finally updated my research pages. Now the pages actually reflect the kinds of work that I am doing these days as well as some past published works. Contact me if you have any questions.

1/21/07 - I only yesterday posted a profile on www.summitpost.org but already the site master there has chosen my profile picture as the photo of the day! I am honored because a lot of the people that post photos on summitpost are real photographers. Thanks to Karen for taking such a good shot of me being silly on 'Pamola's Finger'. In case they change the photo of the day by the time you read this, here is a screenshot.

1/20/07 - I posted pictures from my recent hike in the Bigelows in Maine. It was a real winter wonderland. These are my first outdoor picures with my new camera. Yea! Check them out!

1/07/07 - I posted a short virtual tour of Amherst, mainly for my ever-persistent mom, in my Mass photo album. Not the most exciting pictures ever, but I got a new camera and it was a good excuse to give it a spin.

1/06/07 - Happy New Year! Since 2006 is officially over, I updated my publications page to include links to all of my articles and other presentations from 2006. This includes our recent GRL and JSG papers.

12/03/06 - Simon Kattenhorn and I recently published an article in the special issue on planetary faulting in Journal of Structural Geology. The paper concerns strike-slip faults and associated secondary deformation on Jupiter's moon, Europa. You can download it here.

11/20/06 - Our GRL paper is now out (you can download it here) and the press got wind of the results. Michele and I have been interviewed multiple time and appear in numerous online and printed articles including a spot on our local NPR station on 11/21/06. It is cool just to see that anyone actually reads our paper!

11/08/06 - I posted pics from my hike to the highpoint in CT. It was a really nice hike but a lack of online documentation made it rather surprising for Kevin and I (in a good way). Check out the pics in my Mass Photo Album.

10/29/06 - We have a paper coming out in "Geophysical Research Letters" in the upcoming month or two. It is titled "Fault Slip Rates from Three-Dimensional Models of the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area, California". We also have a paper on uplift rates in Los Angeles and a paper on non-planar fault topology in the Ventura Basin, which will be submitted to the "Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America" in the new few weeks.

9/14/06 - I posted pics from my recent trip to Turkey. Istanbul is a beautiful city, so check them out. No more travels for me until December! Yea! I need to get back to getting some research published.

9/07/06 - I have fixed the links on my mass photo pages. I also have reposted my mp3's on my ftp space, so the music links should work once again. I'm off to Palm Springs in a few days, so more updates will come when I return.

9/02/06 - I got more web space! My old Idaho photos are now posted again. Make sure to hit your refresh or reload button to get the updated pages. I also posted pictures from some of my European travels this summer. Sorry for the wait! Stay tuned for photos from my trip to Istanbul Turkey. I wrote these pages very fast so let me know if I messed some of the details up.

8/27/06 - In case anyone actually reads this page, you may have noticed a lack of updates in the last few months. To sum up...I've been mega-busy. I spent June and part of July in Spain, Italy, Scotland, and Ireland. It was great! I then returned to UMass for a few weeks working with our SCEC intern. Now I have recently returned from Turkey where I attended the SCEC/NSF workshop on the North Anatolian and San Andreas faults. I stayed after the workshop for a few days to experience a little life in Istanbul. Istanbul is a great city! Maybe I'll have some pictures to post, but my webspace is just about empty. So, until further notice the Idaho photo album has no home, so the links to those picture pages will no longer function. My site at this stage takes over 200Mb, and I only am allotted 100Mb at UMass. I'll think of something...don't worry...not that you will. Also my research pages are sadly out of date. Maybe after I get a few publications out the door, I'll update my website with some results. We also submitted a grant proposal to make a web database of modeled fault surfaces with model-calculated slip rates. We'll keep our fingers crossed!

1/13/06 - I made a logo for my band, Prescription America (or Rx USA), and posted a link to the band's myspace.com site. To see it use the music link on my homepage. The weather has been crap here, so I have no new hiking photos to post. Stay tuned...

12/22/05 - I just got finished posting a lot of new pictures in my photo album. It has been a while! I spent so much time in CA this fall, that I didn't have time to post anything new. Don't worry (as if anyone cares), I'm still having new adventures.

10/12/05 - I have fixed some of the jitteryness of my homepage, I also cleaned up my JavaScript a little. I also posted a somewhat improved links page. I pooped out before I had time to get new research pages up. I can only work on webpage updates for so long before I get bored and cross-eyed.

10/11/05 - I will be attending a SCEC workshop on faults in the northern Los Angeles Basin at Cal Tech (Pasadena, CA) this Oct 27-28.

10/11/05 - I have updated my publications page (Publications should open in a new window now.) and am still working on my updated research pages. I also added an inline frame to the news page to allow for scrolling.

10/10/05 - I have posted a new homepage, a contacts page, as well as this news page, which will be updated as noteworthy things happen.

10/09/05 - Tonight I learned some JavaScript techniques to give my homepage some dynamic features. If you run IE, (and you shouldn't) you may need to right-click on the allow active-x controls to run message, which should pop up near the top of your browser window. If you still use IE, get with the program and get firefox.
